Fuel Sending Unit install 140-160 1971

My 33 year old fuel sending unit finally failed. I purchased a new one before contemplating how to remove the old one without the proper Volvo tool. If anyone has any advice, do’s and don’ts on how to successfully accomplish this procedure without the Volvo tool, your help would be most appreciated.
