Brake setup changes 120-130

Séb,

In short again:
Early >< late 1965 model - Is ALL about the front brake hose!

Two different front brake hoses where used in 1965 models.
#671592 - hose with INside threads, both ends
#671799 - hose with OUTside threads, both ends

In 1965 front brakehoses where changed during the modelyear:

120 chassis, #671592 UPTILL chassisno. 182028 - later chassisno. was with #671799 (excl. apr. 130 cars! who still was fitted with #671592)

130 chassis, #671592 UPTILL chassisno. 116499 - later chassisno. was with #671799 (excl. 1 (ONE!) car who still was fitted with #671592, chassino. 115744 - Who ever has THAT car really has a UNIQE car!!) :-)

220 chassis, #671592 UPTILL chassisno. 24249 - later chassisno. was with #671799 (excl. apr. 50 cars! who still was fitted with #671592)

Today's brakepads are without asbestos, and are therefor much harder than with asbestos.
In other words - in good old days when brakepads where made with asbestos, the brakepads where softer and also had a better friction! (better, meaning better braking effect) - so to get same friction (=braking) - you need to push harder with new type...

Harder pressure on pedal also means harder pressure in rear drums but the new "no-asbestos-brakeshoes" have a bad behaviour of "locking" easier at high pressure/greater friction. - this, is then adjusted a little by using the smaller diameter rear cylinder, #670404.

(All this is also why many seek true NOS brake shoe's for all drum brake cars - with front drum brakes it is very difficult to get them adjusted correct, this is NOT brake system which is bad - but simply due to new "bad" product brake shoe's..)

Often there are big misunderstanding in modelyear - Volvo was in most years allready working on next yearmodel in arround August - so 1st. registration is NOT equal to yearmodel - in some cases people could have a 1965 model, but registered in Dec. 1964.
Many BIIIIG discussions on that! :-)

Chassino.!!! - always chassino.!.. - that's the right way arround when asking for parts like brake parts!

Good luck with your brake update!

(Remember NOT to use cobber-grease - buy the cheramichal brake-grease!)
