Some places will polish out minor "sand pitting" on the windshield but in your case I'd get a new one. You will be flat-out amazed. Every time I do this ( and with 12 cars it seems to be an annual occurance) I am soooo happy. But cheap-arse windshields now-a-days seem to need replacing about twice as fast as old ones. Sigh.
