Thanks for your help.

I pulled back the carpet a bit and found the heater-tunnel for rear-seat (although Soren said this duct didn't come before year model 1965). The boot was just on top of that piece. So I stuffed it down underneath and pulled the carpet back.

It looks much smaller now but that must be the way it is supposed to look. See blurry photo.
