timeing belt replacement problem

I'm replacing me timing belt: I lined up the crankshaft pulley (the upper pulley) mark with the rear timing belt cover dimple mark located at the top as shown in the digrams. Problem is when it is lined up I took off the distributer cap and the distributer rotor is lined up with #2 cylinder. somewhone said that pulley will move so use the timing gear instead, well I don't know if that is right or what it is or where it is. Help much appreciated?
