Hello,
I'm planning on changing my timing belt on my 89' 740 GLE with the B234F 16-valve engine. I don't know how well the previous owner kept up with the maintenance, so I plan on replacng all the belts, covers, pulleys, water pump, oil pump bolt, and shaft seals. I was wondering if there were any tips on getting the timing gears and crank gear off to replace the seals. I was planning on leaving the belt on while I do the initial loosening of the bolt, so any slips don't make the valves contact the pistons. I was planning on keeping the gears steady with a wide pair of channel-lock pliers with rubber hose on their jaws. Will this work?
Thanks,
-Fran
