Problem was a rough cold start. Would die frequently and idle very rough and erratically until warm. It turned out to be several problems.
1. Timing was way off - like at 30 degrees!
2. Cold start Valve didn't work. Dirty connection at starter. This helped cold starting quite a lot.
3. Idle control valve sticky.
4. Injector holder o-rings shot. Also fiber washers missing. This helped smooth this a lot.
5. Coolant Temperature sensor. Although the resistance met the specs in Haynes and the service manual, replacing this smoothed out the rough idle and dying. Someone posted recently that cold and hot resistances could check out and it still have problems. I found that to be true also. I discovered this by accident when I left it disconnected cold starting once. Started much better. Still needed to connect it later on when warm. Once replaced. Works great.
Thanks for your help. Now, on to the stupid valve cover and checking clearances. I was going to do this until I notied the the valve cover was heavily glued on and quite warped. I'm just going to replace with an ID valve cover because it will get even more warped when I remove it, it is glued on so heavily.
