Transmission kickdown cable 700 1987

I have an 87 740 with the ZF transmission. It ran and drove well, I shut it down but when I restarted, the throttle was stuck and held shut by the kick down cable.
After checking it out I believe the cable is OK and the binding trouble is inside the case.
Before I go out there and get my hopes up, is there anything I can do inside the oil pan area or is it major 3rd shop maintenance.
