Timing... 140-160

I think you want to advance it more. Retarding it will reduce the power
at all speeds unless it is knocking badly.
I use 21-24° BTDC and if there is a vacuum connection, leave it connected.
That is about where it will come out if you just adjust it for fastest
idle.
What you adjust for the valve timing is the valve timing, not the ignition
timing. You may have a cam wearing out.
