Timing... 140-160

My car is set at about 17* advance at approximately 1000 rpms. Actually, my tach just died, and when i put it in, it read a little higher than my other tach, so... I think i want to retard my timing a little bit though because my car's power drops off after 5-5.5k rpms and i want it to pull all the way to 6k for now. It'll be better on the track i'm assuming. How much should i "reel" it back in do you think? I know that part of my problem is the Weber sitting on top and the direct fan out front, but i remember back when i first got the car and it was retarded, that it had an "on cam" feeling around 4k rpms... that was a nice feeling. =D What do you think i should lower it to? 14*? less? Thanks,
