The default position is full hot. Find the wire hooked to the temp sender and ground it. The wire is yellow, and the sender is on the block, near the distributor, rearward from the knock sensor.
Turn the key to Posioitn II and see if the needle moves to hot. Yes = either the wires was not well connected, of the sender is toast.
BUT WAIT - it could still be the @%^$! temp comp board.
With everyting hooked up, and engine warmed up, try this. (The idea is to jar the instrument cluster enough to wiggle any oxidization that might be on the temp comp board contacts.)
Form the three fingers of your right hand into a "karate poke" configuration and poke the instrument panel at the bottom below the temp gauge. Poke hard ten times and watch the needle. Mine moves after that treatment! If it moves, it's the board - see FAQs on how to bypass it.
Good Luck,
Bob
