Help needed adding remote unlock-FAQ's not complete. 700

I was using the excellent pictures and instructions from the FAQ to add remote unlocking to my 1991 744.

I bought a motor from the passenger side of an 87 wagon. It looked just like the one in the FAQ. ( sort of "L" shaped)

After I removed the drivers door panel and started the installation I ran into some trouble. Hopefully you guys can help.

I installed the linkages and they seem to fit ok, although it was a pain getting my fat fingers inside the door to connect them. But there is already a small motor/switch in place inside the door. This seems to act as the switch for the other units. I took apart my 91 passenger door and found that I don't have an "L" shaped motor on the passanger door. It only has a small motor that looks identical to the one on the drivers side. The motor is directly connected to the lock and the knob. There is no linkage arm. Did they change the way the central locking system worked over the years?

Going back to the driver's side for a moment, do I disable the existing switch or continue to leave it in place? I would think I should leave it in place so that the process of unlocking would be as follows:
The new motor gets a signal to lock/unlock the door.
This is transfered to the locking unit via the linkage and raises/lowers the round knob.
At the same time, the existing drivers door switch is triggered, signiling the other doors to lock/unlock.

Does this list sound right?

Any advice from someone who has done this before would be greatly appreciated.
