164 engine 140-160

Only with a lot of creative work. There is the extra 6 inches or so to make up between the motor mounts and the bellhousing. They stretched the wheelbase on the 164 to make it fit. I don't know if the sump would allow the engine to fit any further forward on a PV, so my guess would be you'd have to cut out the firewall and make a large 'hutch' for it to sit inside. Or replace the crossmember with something that lets a large engine sit between the wheels. I think it would be hard to add length to the front of a PV with all the curves without a lot of very complex sheet metal fabrication.

If going to that much trouble why not put something more visually appealing under the hood - like an old XK Jaguar engine? Or something I've pondered a little bit - a Honda S2000 engine and transmission. 2.0 liters, 9000 rpm redline, 240 hp, and a very slick 6 speed manual tranny. It's pretty fast in the 2800 lb Honda roadster body - it should really scream in the 2200 lb PV.
