Good p.m. and may this find you well. I'm pretty sure the 960 has a central locking relay. That may have failed, coincident with - but not caused by - your battery replacement.

If 960s are like 940s, the relays are behind the fuse block, which is behind the ashtry in the front center console. You may have to remove the storage bin above the ashtray (if present), to access relays and to have enough room to work.

The click that you hear "around the radio area" may be the relay working, but not enough to pass power through to the other lock motors.

This relay can be had at many salvage yards. If you want a new one, try fcpgroton or a Volvo dealer (www.borton.com is a Minneapolis-based Volvo dealer, who discounts).
