Oil smoke 700

Been having the smell of burnt oil lately on my '90 740 GLE w/115k. When I open the hood there is a slight amount of smoke coming off the exhaust manifold. The side of the block is moist with oil but it doesn't seem to be coming from the valve cover but lower.

Questions?
-Is this a common problem with the 16V engine?
-Will re-torquing the head help?
-Any other suggestions?
