What is causing hard left steering (in cold)? 200 1991

What seemed to start this winter, when cold-starting my Volvo sometimes it is nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel to (only) the left. After some playing it finally snaps out of what seems locked and it works fine.

The problem seems to only start up again after sitting cold and has been getting worse. Does anyone have some pointers or has experienced this?
