740 or 240

In my opinion,if you can get a late model 240,say '93 you'll be good for 15 years or so.They fixed the wiring harness issues around '88,added air bags in '90 and ABS in '92,the AC was changed over to r134 in '92-93 as well.
I see you live in California so rust probably isn't an issue.I would go for the 240 turbo over the '85 740.All the red block engines are very good if they are maintained.I think the M-46(4sp+OD)is the best transmission although the automatics last and there isn't a clutch to deal with. I worked on a '90 240 wagon the other day with 375k miles on the car,original engine(B-230) and auto trans.
I like the 240s ,they seem safer to me.
