740 or 240

i am in the market for an inexpensive volvo. between the 240's and the 740's series is there one that is better. also i heard that volvo had electrical problems certain years and certain models, does anyone know? is there a engine that is better - 2.1, 2.3, 230, turbo, 5 speed, 3 speed, 3 spd w/ od. i am trying to find out what model car to look for and what features to look for. thanks.

p.s. i found a 1985 740 GLE, 5 speed that is pretty good, and a 1982 240 turbo that i liked.
