That's a first. Have you tried removing the pin and drilling for a cotter pin, just to keep it in place? You are likely in the market for a new hinge.
Spring sag in the rear of 940s is a known problem. I solved mine with a couple of new springs from FCPGroton, the ScanTech heavy duty for sedans.
