Engine vin code '82', in the US? 200

Contemplating the purchase of a 1991 245, turbo, M47(?) manual. I have not looked at it yet.

It is supposed to have an engine vin code of "82". According to the vin decoder it is a B230GT, LH3.1. I thought this engine/FI system is European. Did it overstay it's visa? Am I missing something? If I find a steering wheel on the RH side, it would be a dead giveaway. BTW, the asking price is no where near the price John Sargent paid for his last car. Late model + wagon + manual + turbo = a rare combination. Just what I need, an expensive car that needs $1500 worth of parts.

Considering the fact that there is a <10% of purchasing any car I go to look at, I'll have to run a $15 car fax report on the vin code before I waste a better half of a day.
