What's a normal Engine Vacuum Pressure?

What's a normal range for vacuum pressure (eg 15 inches of mercury)?
How well does it correlate with compression tests? I noted that my stronger brick (ie higher compression in all cylinders) also have the strongest vacuum. I'm wondering if the vacuum pressure test is a quick estimate of the compression readings. TIA!
