Your problem sounds a lot like what was going on with my 91 when I got it, except mine was like that even on the first start of the day. I did a number of things myself, and something fixed it, but I'm not sure which thing. I replaced the flame trap and a couple of vacuum lines, cleaned out the brass vacuum nipple on the intake manifold, removed and cleaned the throttle body and reinstalled it with a new gasket, and replaced the TPS with a used one I picked up at the local P&P. Somewhere in there the problem went away, and the car now starts and runs perfectly every time.
