Help getting things back together ! 700

1989 760 Turbo Sedan:
I just took the drivers side strut assembly apart to investigate a clunk in the bottom of the strut tube. Turns out that the gland nut wasn't tight enough and the strut was loose in the tube.

I followed the suggestions in the FAQ and the assembly came apart rather easily.

However,I'm not sure how to get things back together.

Right now the strut tube with the shock attached is hanging outside my fender. The spring is compressed but not enough to get everything back on. Do I need to compress the spring enough to get the top mount and everything back on the way it came off before putting it back under the fender? Does the big nut go on before or after everything goes back up in?

Could somebody provide me a sequence to reinstall the spring and the strut mount. It seems that there's not enough room to mount everything with the spring compressors attached?

All suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.
