Still no luck on trans 700 1989

I am still trying to remove the transmission without luck. I simply cant get at the upper bolt on the pass. side whose access is complicated by the AC and exhaust. I tried removing the exhaust, no luck there whatsoever. The bolts at both the cat. and the flange which mounts it to the turbo refuse to come off. The turbo flange in particular has a problem with no ability to counterhold the bolts so they just spin. No wrench or combination of tools seems able to fit in the space around the trans and maintain a reasonable swing area. Are there any suggestions? Lowering the engine was presented as an option by some on the board, but that seems unlikely; I don't want to have to disconnect everything from the engine as well. I was considering removing the distributor and hood and trying to a wrench in through the top. Does that sound like a viable plan to anyone? This is getting bad enough that I am considering dropping the entire project and just buttoning everything back up.
