I'm trying to do a 'remote diagnosis' of a friend's 245. Here are his symptoms:
"With a full gas tank, it stalled (engine quit) once at idle. The next day on on the way to work it lost power three times at 50 to 60 miles an hour, but the engine never quit. The first time it regained power again before the car came to a stop. The second and third times I coasted to a stop on the shoulder, tried pumping the gas to see it that would help, but no. The third time it backfired as I got to the shoulder. In all these cases, the engine did not quit. After sitting at idle a couple of minutes it works just fine.
On the way home it stalled at a light (engine quit). Had to wait a couple of minutes before it would start. Then on the highway it lost power twice at 50 to 60 MPH. Both times coasted to a stop on the shoulder. I think the engine quit completely once."
On my short list of possible culprits are: fuel pump(s), fuel pump relay, and clogged fuel filter. Am I overlooking anything obvious?
