AutoZone OBDII Code Reading Capabilities 900 1998

David,

In this case Code P0705 is set by the TCM and sent to the ECM to light the MIL. It cannot be cleared by disconnecting the battery. And, most scan tools cannot reset it because it is not a generic OBDII code. It is apparently Volvo specific and needs a special Volvo Scan tool to erase.

The PNP switch is not hard to replace just a pain in the *ss.

I bought it over the internet at Borton Volvo.

And Yes, on the 98 S90 you have to drop the exhaust head pipes/cat. so that you can disconnect the trans fluid cooler return line so you can pull the PNP switch off the trans shaft. SInce I will be doing this again soon on the our 95 960, I documented the R&R preocedure to anal detail. If you would like me to send you a copy of it, send me your e-mail addess.

I have the Auto Xray Xp-2400 unit but as stated above, it does not recognize codes sent to the ECM by the TCM. If you buy one, you may want to verify that it can read ALL the OBDII codes and be able to erase them all.

Observation : I dissasembled the PNP switch and was amazed at how often it fails since it is an incredibly simple design. When looking at it , you wonder why it fails at all. I noticed on my switch that the grease inside was honey colored on one end of the switch and BLACK on the other side of the switch. Since that grease is not exposed to anything, I'm wondering if the contacts are arcing and burning the grease. I'm tempted to clean it up, re-grease with synthetic grease and install in the 95 960.
