My aw72L did that when I first bought my 745. It shifted hard and took off in 2nd ocassionally. I changed ALL the fluid and pulled the pan and cleaned the strainer. That fixed it and 30k later it's great. Make sure if you change the fluid you do it the right way. 3 qts at a time... it's all in the faq. It's not a bad job just kindof nasty with 8(?) qts of old fluid to deal with. make sure to get 6 ft of hose that will fit on the return line.

good luck. I hear that these trannies are supposed to last around 250-300k miles so you probably shouldn't worry.
