Generally, I think you fix it if it is coming from the weep hole, which signals a worn water pump. If it is leaking from the seal around the little metal water line that can often be fixed without replacement.

It can go on leaking for a while without a problem, but it can have a catastrophic failure that leaves you stranded. So fix it as soon as possible is my vote.

I agree with Chris that the Hepu is very good and very reasonably priced.
