electrical tape too cheap for cheapskates

Afternoon,

Thought I'd do a little salesmanship for a new addition to my emergency toolkit, fits in nicely next to roll of "high performance" (formerly called "racer's") duct tape.

I refer to a product available at a nat'l auto parts chain, I don't want to let the cat out of the bag and tell which one....

Stuff is called "amalgamating tape", is a rubberized tape on a roll similar in size to typical vinyl black tape. No adhesive, "self-sticking", has a backing on it, you peel it off after cutting off a piece and gently stretching it.

Stuff is made in UK, is a high quality product, truly does amalgamate and stick really well. Have used it to fix old leaky valves on radiators, made useful grips on formerly-to-be-junked tools, and, most importantly, have made miserable-looking wiring harnesses on the these early 80s 240s look factory new again. Like any hillbilly repair, it helps to get the surface to be "amalgamated" good and clean first...

Next use for the stuff is as bicycle handlebar tape/x/c ski pole grip improver. Tape is expensive, but you stretch it about 50% under use so it goes a long way.

Can also slice it to 1/4" width and use it as an excellent insulating tape, with right technique it doesn't give up grip like vinyl tapes esp. in extreme heat and cold.
