deep clunk under car when braked

My car developed a very similar problem the other day. There is no apparent loss of braking power and it only comes when I press fairly firmly, but there is one clunk when depressing and one, slightly lighter, when I release the pedal. It seems to be coming from the front right wheel. I shall be very interested in hearing about your problem and a possible solution.
