Are the rubber valve dampeners needed?

If you do replace them (and I would) check your valve clearances before you install them, calculate new shim size and install the shims. Then put in the new dampers.
Raeson: When first installed the dampers are stiff and expanded pushing up on the valve cup and shim making it hard to measure the clearance. It takes a bit of run time before they compress.
