I have an oil leak at the front cam seal that has gotten progressively worse. I don't have the necessary equiptment to yank the timing belt and replace the seal and am planning on taking it to the shop at the end of the week. In the meantime, however, I am concerned that I might have a fire hazard on my hands. The way that it is leaking, the oil is coating the head around the water pump and the around the exhuast manifold. I need the car to take me three miles up the road to work and back each day. Other than that, I can let it sit until I get it fixed. Is that short distance time enough to allow the manifold to get to a temperature that would be likely to ignite the oil? I've experienced the spilled oil that ignites, and have no desire to have it do so while I am driving to work.
