I've had similar symptoms with the failure of the LH-Jet temp. sender. If, for the few moments it runs, it's running REALLY rich, check it.

failure mode: an open circuit (failed sender) makes the ECU think it's REALLY cold outside. The ECU then richens the misture as much as it knows how.
