automatic transmission, Overdrive 200 1987

I have a 87 240 DL,automatic transmission. I have just changed the overdrive relay, shift wiring harness, and the OD solenoid. The car still remains in OD, it will not go into the final gear. I have had trouble in the past with the relays and i usually got by with just swapping them out. I was driving and the car kicked into overdrive and its been that way since. The harness from the shift button to the solenoid was totally bare.Please any suggestions. The car
has 182k on it and looks and runs great.
