My 85 740 na had bad clutch and was bypassed by Previous owner.

I would say if your clutch is still working (freewheeling) than I would not touch a thing. I can't imagine that the power draw is too much. It would be more trouble than it's worth to change, and it would cost to take out the freon charge.
