Faulty flashers and no-start. Connected? 200

So the car is suffering from "deferred maintenace". It's an 84 244 GL I got from a wholesaler who got it at auction that I'm guessing was an estate-sale that sat for a while.

It cleaned up better than I thought. The body is good, the leather is cracked but the dash isn't! Anyway I've already replaced the fuel line, top heater hose, new starter motor and done the dreaded blower motor.

Yesterday the flashers stopped working so I swapped out the relay with a known good one - no change. Put the original back in and they work. This morning they still worked but after I started the car they didn't. The relay buzzes when signaling. Later today the car refused to start; would turn over but not start. I pulled on a few wires under the hood and lo-and-behold!! It started.

I am not good at electrics. This sounds like it could be the disintigrating harness "syndrome". Any idea where to look for the short? Or any other comments / ideas welcome.
