I have a 1992 240, auto with 190k, bought it last year at 163k. It was tuned up at 155k.
I just regapped the plugs to .029 (spec is .028 to .032). They had been more like .035. They looked ok otherwise.
But now a problem I thought was just a design fault of the auto trans is worse. When I start off, the engine hesitates and doesn't pull very well until around 1500 RPM. Then it's okay. The problem is worse when it's cold, but it doesn't feel right even warm.
It starts and idles fine, runs smooth, everything else seems okay.
I'm visiting relatives right now, and am planning to drive 500 miles back home tomorrow. Is there a serious problem about to happen that needs fixing before I head out on the highway?
Maybe the timing is a coincidence and the plug gap is not even related to this issue?
I checked the 700 FAQ, but didn't see anything that matches my problem.
Thanks for any help you can give.
