75 164e upper control arm and bushing question 140-160

The bushings on this vehicle required replacement. Once I removed the Control arm it was pretty obvious that there was considerable play between the two bushings and the "crossbar", I removed the old bushings and crossbar, then slipped the crossbar into the new bushings and found that there was still a lot of radial movement
I assume that I need to replace the crossbar as it must have suffered an extreme amount of wear, or, is it possible that there are differente sizes of bushes and crossbars for this year and possibly I have the wrong bits?
Any suggestions or experience's is welcome.
