Compression? 140-160

I have a couple of questions related to your earlier answers. My son's '71 142 shows compression reading of 135 psi (+/- 2 psi). It burns oil, but only when accelerating after slowing or, he says, when turning a corner. I've seen the first circumstance, not the second. Valve guide seals have been replaced. It has a Weber carburetor setup, and some of the hoses for emissions -pcv valve, etc. don't match with what I know about SU setups. A guy at my local parts place suggests it could be a result of the hoses not being attached correctly. We have receipts showing that the previous owner had the engine rebuilt only a few thousand miles ago. Any suggestions?

Jim
