Any improvements for cable actuated clutch function?

After spending around 5 hours driving my professor's 97 Outback 5spd and then going back to my 740, I noticed something. My clutch is bloody hard to push in by comparison. (I've had problems in heavy traffic before, but didn't realize that things could be so much better.) Now, I'm not about to sell my soul to the devil and get a Subaru or anything, but is there any way I can take a little effort out of my clutch pedal engagement? Keep in mind that this is the original 16-year-old clutch, in case that makes a difference. This is one part of the car that I'm not too familiar with and I would appreciate any advice that's out there. Thanks in advance.
