By ignition module do you mean ignition amplifier? About 1cm thick and 6 or 7 wide, mounted on the inner wing near the headlamp? I've had one of these go bad - it caused intermittent no start syndrome. The bugger would crank but wouldn't fire. come back 1/2 hour later and it'd start as if nothing had happened. Not cheap - cost me about £35 for a new 'un. Rarish on Volvos but not uncommon on other brands of car.
