Convince me on synthetic...

I am about to do an oil change, and I am considering switching to synthetic. Everyone here seems to rave about the stuff, so I wanna know why? I have a high miler, (380k), but I don't loose much oil. Would/could I see the benefit of running synthetic, and is there anything I might want to be wary of.
