I had the same problem with my 122 wagon when I got it. It was so bad
I had to have somebody push just to drive it up on ramps to get under it.
It might be an adjustment problem. There NEEDS to be a little slack in
the rod that runs from the clutch slave cylinder to the clutch release arm.
If you can't turn the rod with your fingers, it is too tight and is keeping
the clutch from engaging. Check that first, and adjust if necessary so that
there is about 1" play at the clutch pedal before anything happens at the
clutch. That'll be about 1/16" at the adjustable rod, maybe less, just
enough that it turns freely.
If that adjustment doesn't help, then you gotta get at least a clutch plate
and maybe a pressure plate too. They are standard clutches, the old ones
made by Borg & Beck in Chicago. If there is a clutch rebuilder near you,
take your plate and pressure plate to him and you'll probably get a good
deal.
