Well, the advice on the transmission replacement was right on, BUT... 700

Okay, I replaced the M46 in El Rojo Grande (I really wanted to fix it, but it cost too much). The new trans is fine, the clutch is fine and everything is fine except the car runs like, well, like shit. It is hard to start, does not rev up like it used to (before I did the trans), and accelerates poorly, sometimes coughing and lurching. I am bummed, the car ran beautifully before the trans job, but I didn't (intentionally) touch any engine components.

I am wondering what could have happened. Is it possible I bumped the distributor when lowering the trans? What would that do, how would I know, and how could I fix it? What about turning the engine backwards, which probably happened when I took off the flywheel for machining? Could that foul up the timing belt or something?

Any ideas out there?

ps. those three guys who all said "go to the boneyard" were correct. The old trans had thrown a synchro at the synchro cone and ground itself to dust. Synchro cone = $275. Too bad.
