Hello, I am considering buying a car that has been sitting for almoast a year, because of a "bad turbo" the body is in absolutely imaculate condition, inside and out. The car is an '86 760 turbo. Now for the questions...
Is there anything wrong with the turbocharger? I started it with a jump after it had not been run in 10 months, it started instantly it idles and runs perfect it had one flat tire, so i could not drive it but I put it in gear and did a brake stand to see if the turbo would boost and sure enough it did, the boost gauge rose to about half way before I let off. So I also pulled off the intake hose and checked the turbo shaft for play...none at all, and it spun freely. Another reason I am doubting it is a turbo problem is that it was just replaced 5 years ago at a Volvo dealer, and has 20,000 miles on it at the hands of a 70 year old woman, and the shop that "diagnosed" the problem has a bad rep and the estimate was $1500, for a turbo cartridge and install (seems a bit high too me) The problem with the car is (as explained to me by the owner) "when going about 50mph and wanting to accelerate, you have to ease the throttle or th engine will lose power and you will be going about 30." What could cause this problem? Also the only other thing wrong with the car is that the automatic climate controll only works in the defrost position (I have no experiance with ACC and I wonder if it will be a major issue to get it working again?)
Sorry about the lenght of the post.
Any help and comments ar GREATLY APPREACIATED!!!!!
THANK YOU!!
Steve
