The speedos in 1983 were the 85 mph type, I'm not too sure about before that. In 1984, the 120 mph speedos came (back?) in.
In my 1990 245 with it's original unmodified B230F and auto AW70, I hit a little over 105 a few times, and it felt like it had more to give. I would guess it would have broken 110 mph. With the new engine, it hits 120 with no problem, but I get limited by my driveshaft, which is relatively long and skinny, and has problems somewhere around that speed.
I remember reading a post by (I can't remember the name now) the guy who called his car the Chevolvo. Chevy V8 powered 240, and he claimed that on a downhill, he once hit about 155 mph, calculated from the tach.
