I think that 175 is the compression right out of the book. I rarely measured one that is exactly the same all cyls. Usually on a four cyl, the middle two are a little lower because they run hotter. It's possible that he read that to you rather than actually checking it. Maybe you want to run the test yourself, it's easy enough to do.
