Help to a newcomer 1800 1968

My automotive knowledge is based on american v-8's, the brakes started working after the car was started, there was no pedal pressure at all, then while test driving it in the yard, the brakes started working although I do have to pump them up a bit, I am hoping bleeding them will solve all problems. Thank you to everyone who replied, I'm sure I'll have more questions as the restoration goes on
