Re: Fuel Pump, Fuel Pump Relay, or Tank Pump? 700 1989

You may try my method of locating the engine motion sensor located at the top of the bell housing just aft of the head. Remove the 10 mm bolt and gently pull out the sensor, but don't pull on the cable. The cable leads to a connection at the firewall. I cleaned my unit with spray carb cleaner and wiped dry the tip which has a metalic looking pick-up. Now, the next nifty task is to gently sand with about 120 grit paper, the mounting part of the sensor or where the 10mm bolt snugs up against. Sometimes the plastic surrounding the aluminum ring that snugs to the aluminum bell housing gets in the way. So a few swips with the sandpaper will clean this aluminun ring and plastic and put it back on the same plane. Lastly, spray, sand and wipe the seating area at the bell housing os to ensure a clean grounding.. This procedure seems to solve the same situation i experianced last week. Some shops seem to always take the rout of replacing the sensor, the relay and the in tank fuel pump. Let me know if this works for you!!!!! deteagle@yahoo.com Connecticut.
