Hi Ron. I unwrapped most of the tape off the passenger side harness going from the engine harness connector to the firewall. Some of the wires on mine were OK, but others were toast. Fortunately, they were OK back near the firewall, so I just put about 6 inches of shrink wrap on the bad end near the connector. As for the other wire harnesses in the engine compartment, I pretty much removed all the plastic insulating sleeve and checked all the wires, using shrink wrap, tape, or replacing bad segments. The only thing I couldn't deal with were the "shielded" wires going to the distributor and knock sensor. I couldn't find any wire that would be similar, so I just prayed they were OK and put some of the black plastic insulation sleeve over them.

I've found that if you go to a salvage yard and pull the INTERIOR wiring harness out of a 240, you can cut it up and use the black plastic sleeve and even some of the wires for splicing together new and repaired segments of the engine wiring harness on any Volvo. I haven't ever found new black insulation sleeve like Volvo uses, so the next best thing is the used stuff from the interior of a 240 that hasn't been subjected to the engine heat and harsh environment.

As for being easy to work on, I guess it's all relative. A friend had a couple Audi Coupe GT's a while back , and I can assure you Volvo's are easier to work on than those things!
